Many people were highly outraged about the video of Marine David Motari throwing a puppy off of a cliff in Iraq. I saw the video on youtube several months ago, and needless to say it has since been removed. There are a few remnants of the video remaining such as this one:
According to this updated story he was sacked for throwing puppy off cliff. There is also a clip from CNN:
Granted Motari’s disregard and senseless killing of this puppy was upsetting, what was more outrageous for me was that no one has discussed other degrading actions by soldiers that have been shown in videos on youtube. It has been a few months since I saw the original Mortari video, but if I remember correctly he also conducted degrading/belittling acts similar towards Iraqi citizens. For an example one video where a soldier was shown bribing Iraqi citizens to chant things like “I love ham” in exchange for water; Or the one below where starving children were teased with water and food dangled from a military vehicle while these children chased it in the desert heat all while he laughed at their efforts to obtain the water:
If you view the video below you can’t help but wonder what happened to honorable conduct? What happened to moral conduct? If this is how all of our soldiers behave around the world it is no wonder that we have developed enemies as we have, and it should not be surprising that many other cultures see Americans as disgusting and without any morals.
And what about this video of soldiers bombing a man’s flock of sheep? Who is really doing the terrorizing in this video? Won’t this type of behavior instill resentment?
This behavior is a complete disgrace to our military. Regardless of whether this ‘war’ is right or wrong, should our soldiers have the right to terrorize the daily lives of these people while we occupy their land? What type of image are they creating? I mean, what happened to dignity?
The way we are addressing these acts says something about our morals in this country. Especially when we can use this type of degrading behavior for entertainment and feel no remorse about is whatsoever. What happened to humanity? I can only come to the conclusion that people feel it is justified because they are our ‘enemies’. If these types of actions are being filmed I hate to think of what is happening off camera!
